Let’s Make It Matter: How to participate in Isolated Magazine and 50 / 50
A Talk by Juliet Fletcher and Andrew Losowsky
About this Talk
Two writer-editors share the story of Isolated Magazine, and the approaches they each take to capturing meaningful responses to this moment in time from many locations and viewpoints.
Andrew Losowsky, founder of Isolated magazine, speaks about this pop-up magazine, which is gearing up to accept written and visual responses. He has created pop-up journalism enterprises before, notably Stranded, during the 2010 Icelandic volcanic eruption.
Essayist Juliet Fletcher, who joined Isolated as a contributor in March, will discuss how she found collaborators among Isolated's community of writers and is now working on a project collecting 50 lockdown essays from the 50 states. She believes one response to current overwhelming events can be to view our own neighborhoods and regions as we would a strange town or foreign country. What would we notice then? What would we think most important to tell readers about? What would seem the stakes of the situation?
